neil_lichtman.jpgAs we celebrate the start of calendar year 2009, it is also time to assess how the CMwD is doing financially in this Fiscal 2009.

By now, or shortly, your congregation will receive an e-mail from the CMwD requesting a very brief update of your congregational expectations for this fiscal year for donating to both the UUA’s Annual Program Fund and to the District.

Nationally, the picture for the APF is still reasonably strong. The APF is running even with the previous fiscal year. However . . .

The picture for the CMwD is not as strong. Contributions to date to the UUA’s APF are ten percent below last year. Some of this is due to a couple of congregations experiencing new and severe financial problems, and some of this is due to donations coming in somewhat slower than last year.

Contributions to date to the District are also trending below plan, however, for the District it appears that the issue is almost entirely delayed contributions. Last year, by December 31, we had received 47% of the year’s contributions. By this December 31, we have seen only 40% of expected contributions to the District.

As we come into the back half of the Fiscal Year, we need to tighten up our expectations for both the APF and the District. When you receive our request for an update, please run it through your congregation’s financial leadership and respond as soon as you reasonably can.

Best regards,

Neil Lichtman
