Photo by Nancy IronsUsually late August and early September are not busy times in our district office, but this year has been different.  Ian and I have both commented to each other that fall seems to have slammed into us at full speed, and for some reason, we aren't ready.  Of course, I know this is the busiest time of year for all of you who are leaders in our congregations and you're probably thinking, "quit whining!"  Something that has complicated fall, for me, is my daughter who is expecting her third baby in the middle of October.  As I write this, she has just been ordered to basically stay prone for the last month of her pregnancy.  With two other little ones who are just shy of 2 and 3 years old, that is virtually impossible!  So, I - along with the other grandparents and aunts and uncles - are chipping in to help out so her husband doesn't have to use all his family leave time before the baby is born.
I tell you all this as a way of making an excuse for my lack of a column in this Midwesterner.  The good news is, that I have wonderful colleagues in other districts who write fabulous stuff.  So, I want to refer you to two of my recent favorites.
Tandi Rogers Koerger of the Pacific Northwest District, has an article up titled, "13 Steps to Start Your Church Year Strong."  It's filled with great things that you will want to think about this fall --   www.pnwd.org
Then, Phil Lund in the Prairie Star District just to our west has a blog which he updates almost every week.  His articles are fascinating!
Ian has also been blogging on our website, and I am going to join him very soon!
My fall schedule is filled with trips around the district and I am looking forward to seeing many of you in the coming months.
